MILLA has partnered with the Washtenaw County Workers’ Center (WCWC) to create a bilingual Know-Your-Labor-Rights presentation for immigrant workers (particularly low-wage workers and independent contractors) in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. By focusing on a variety of issues that workers often encounter on the job, the presentation is intended to provide workers with the tools they need to exercise their rights. These topics include safety and health laws, unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation, misclassification of employees, and wage theft.
The presentation will be written early during the fall semester, and will then be presented by student and community members. Student volunteers interested in researching, drafting the presentation itself or presenting to workers are welcome and may receive pro bono credit.
